Around the world in 80 days (Inglés 1ºESO)

MOVING: AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS.
The school year comes to its end and an outstanding project such as EnREDa2 needs to close with a final touch. La Mola and our students are going to finish the party doing our best. This time the issue is MOVING, the cultural mixture as a core idea. In English we have focused on the UK and its imperial and colonial age in the 19th century, a time when the English spread their culture to many countries, and changed history in Asia, Africa or even Australia.
Using as a tool Julius Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, Advanced English 1 ESO A/B students have taken a close look at this subject. Nobody like Phileas Fogg, the perfect English gentleman, and nothing like his adventures around Europe, Egypt, India, China, Japan or North America, to see what the British provided to all these places and how the Commonwealth appeared.
After reading and working the book in English, we got involved with the second part of the project. We organised different student groups and raffled some cities visited by Fogg in Verne’s work.  Then the students surfed the net to look for very specific info. They not only had to work out how Mr Fogg arrived or which means of transport he used to do so, or which the socio-political situation was in that moment, but something more important: which tracks or footprints those countries left in the present day UK and how the cultural mixture always enriches and improves any society.
By means of the tool GENIALLY our kids have produced some very interesting interactive images, have worked their English, their TIC knowledge and their ability to work in group. We’re really satisfied!
